Sorry this post is late, and I didn’t upload a pre written post on Friday as I normally do, I got distracted. Instead, I’m writing this, telling you what got me distracted, and giving it to you in this delayed post.
I have been prepping for NaNoWriMo, this abbreviation is National Novel Writing Month, which by tradition is November. Where authors all over, try and write an entire book in one month. Which, is not that lofty of a goal, but the majority of people fail, whether it be due to other life problems getting in the way, or lack commitment, determination, something like that. The vast majority of people fail this self-imposed challenge.
This year, I will be participating in NaNoWriMo too. If you have been following me you probably know, my first book The Descendant is no longer in print. Due to Covid lockdown induced staffing issues my publisher has gone out of business, thrown in the towel and as of April this year returned all the print rights to me. I have since edited a couple drafts of the book, queried some agents and edited some more drafts. The newest draft of The Descendant is a rather different book now, almost 25% longer with some rewording and clarification. I have rebranded it as a new and different book with the tittle Altar of Scales. Come December I will start querying again with this newest, biggest bestest manuscript.
However, before December comes November. Because of the slow down and eventual full stop of forward progress with the book series while working with the publisher, and before that, the distraction of working on books one and two, prepping for printing, marketing and all that, so my writing had been neglected, is still being neglected. I have been sitting on a started, but nowhere near complete manuscript for the fifth book in the series for two-ish years now. I have written other books in the meantime, check out my 40k word novel Rabbit’s Anvil on the official Battletech forum as an example.
Just because I haven’t sat down and done any serious writing for book V, the next instalment of the series, that doesn’t mean I haven’t been thinking about it. I have been plotting, editing the 35 words I do have written already, making connections between the characters and the plot and make it thick. So now, as I am writing this on October 30th, hours before the start of NaNoWriMo I have sat down, checked my outline, curated my notes, and could not be more ready for the event, where I intend to finish writing book V. As I mentioned there are about 35,000 words already written into the book, I hope to finish the book with a final word count somewhere between 100,000 and 150,000 words. So, for simplicity’s sake, Let’s say I intent to add an even 100,000 words. Which means I will need to be writing 3,225 words every day. For the entire month of November, I will be starting work on Monday October 31st (tomorrow) just because that’s the start of the week and it works out well for e with y schedule and my day job.
So that’s why I didn’t drop the regular blog post on Friday this week, because I was plotting, and curating notes and doing some last-minute research so that way, I can do nothing but write next month. Hopefully completing book V. After the book is done, I will begin querying for my new book Altar of Scales. So that’s why I am late with this post, and that’s what is going on in my neck of the woods with my writing and books. Wish me luck, I wish you luck if you are participating in NaNoWriMo too.
Thanks for stopping by, I’ll see you out there.
